Street Photography Special Interest Group
Meets the third Wednesday of the month on Zoom at 7:30 PM.
Street photos are images with a human element anywhere people are — photos can have many people, one person, or no people at all.
Rules:
- Bring up to 10 photos to share - or none at all - and just attend to see what other members are showing and doing photographically.
- No formal judging or critiques. Anyone can comment and participate in open discussion of images.
- All experience levels are welcome from those new to the genre to long time street photographers.
- The group is informal, participatory, and fun. Members share travel photos, documentary photos, PJ (photo journalism) photos, and their own photo projects. Members enjoy encouraging others new to street photography.
Previously members have shown series of photos of:
- Antiwar protests in Washington DC taken in the 1970s
- A personal project of California Ranch Style houses in the area
- Photowalk around Hollywood Guitar Center
- Night film photos of street takeovers in LA
- People in rural areas of Eastern Europe
- PJ photos from a career in photojournalism
- Ten random street photos
Where to do Street Photography?
Street photography isn’t just in New York or Paris, it’s everywhere. You can do it in small towns, back roads, suburban sidewalks, fairs, truck stops, airports, beaches… In the broadest sense consider the street to be anywhere with a human element in it (street photographs may or may not have humans in the frame). Venture everywhere to see what is there and bring back visions of it for the rest of us.
